What's in a name?

Hello again, Veronica and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary last weekend and were able to spend some time antiquing and looking for inspiration. We wandered down to the Camas vintage street fair and checked out all of the great vendors down there. If I was an experienced blogger, I would have remembered to bring my camera or at least taken notes, but I totally spaced it, so all I can tell you is that we saw a lot of soggy but smiling people (luckily , we arrived post-deluge:) and some beautifully arranged booths, and had a quick visit with (and bought a really pretty vase from) Michelle from "my shabby passion" She always has such beautiful things!

Since I don't have pics to share from that event , I thought I would share a little about us and how we became "the Olive Kat" We have been collecting and selling vintage goodies for a couple of years now, and our friend Cathy Foley from "Beyond the garden gate" who was a big supporter of ours from the beginning, invited us to participate in the "vintage Gathering" event sales starting at the season opening event in May. Timing was perfect since we had just pulled out of a booth in a local market that we had been maintaining for the last year.

We had a great time at the first couple of sales, and then Cathy said that people had started asking about us and that we should probably have a name , Other than "those Pyrex people". Several names were thrown around and we tried on the name "I Hart Pyrex" but it didn't seem to stick and we kept experimenting. The kids really wanted us to be named "Pyrex cove", or "Pyrex of the Caribbean" but we thought that although we specialize in Pyrex dishes, that's not all that we do and we thought it might be limiting to have Pyrex in our name so we came up with "the Olive Kat" using the names of our daughters Olivia, and Katherine, since they have had to suffer through every family outing and vacation turning into a "junking" expedition and invariably they have to ride home with bags full of treasures In their laps because we ran out of room in the back of the car, and they take it all in stride. They inspire us and we love them very much.

We are truly excited to be continuing this adventure and we hope that, whatever you call us, you will come say hi at the next event , on Oct. 3 rd at "Uncovered Ruby" located at 510 e. Main st, Battle Ground WA 98604 They will be celebrating their 2 year anniversary at this location and they have tons of great vendors lined up along with their own collection of beautiful items for your home. See you there! - Matt and Veronica Hart

Sept. 12 vintage gathering-so fun!

Cathy's place was buzzing today with loads of people out enjoying the sunshine (even busloads of people!) We had so much fun, hanging out with all of our "vintage gathering" buddies. This was the last event of the spring/summer at Cathy's store, but we will be at the 2 year anniversary celebration for "Uncovered Ruby" in 3 weeks time (Oct. 3rd) You can find details along with some fabulous pics of yesterdays event at www.uncoveredruby.blogspot.com I will post more details here soon. Thanks for a great day to all who came and if we missed you, we hope to see you at the next one! - matt and veronica

We were so excited to have our friends , the Stricklands right next to us all day. They had an awesome display full of fun and interesting items for sale. Plus they had more shade than we did, so we visited often :-)

Tent city!

This little guy took a liking to our thermos so we let him hang out for a while...

Veronica , Katherine, and Olivia made these cute little fabric pumpkins for the sale.

The candy corns in the glass canisters were supposed to be strictly decorative, but Kurt and I got a little hungry halfway through the day and the display corns dwindled..

The fall colored "americana" PYREX bowls on the 2nd to top shelf were snapped up pretty quickly. I'd better start looking for more. ( I love them too :) )

Katherine has always had a huge amount of love for animals, so when she found Cathy's cute cat ,we lost her to "kitty land" for a while.. we eventually got her back.

Magnet board - open house!

Our niece , Janel, is a independant consultant for "Scentsy" candles, and she is having an open house this weekend, sat sept. 12th from 3:30-8:30 and sun. sept.13th from 1:00-5:00. She has been a big supporter for our magnet boards and has bought several as gifts for her friends, so she offered to let us set some up during her open house. There are about a dozen of them there now and lots of magnets to choose from. Some of the boards are bare metal and some have fun fabric over the metal. Stop by and check them out if you have a chance after visiting the "vintage gathering" event at "beyond the garden gate"(see previous post). You can find Janel at www.scentsy.com/janelmouser thanks, Matt and Veronica

The kitty has landed

We have decided to start this blog as a way to keep people updated as to where and when we are having upcoming sales and so people have a way to contact us if they have any special requests, or items they would like us to bring to the next sale.
We are very excited to be a part of the "vintage gathering" group and will be joining them for a fall event this Saturday Sept. 12th from 8-4 at "Beyond the Garden Gate", located at 17414 ne 199th st., Battle Ground WA 98604.
This will be the last event of the spring/summer for the "vintage gathering " group of vendors. We have been having a great time at these events and making lots of new friends and are very thankful to Cathy for inviting us to be a part of it.
More info to come soon so check back in with us often, thanks, Matt and Veronica
